Derek has the right answer. If your inverter "puts out" say 300 watts, the draw on the 12 volt side will be in the order of 30 amps. I personally would not want to use the body of a modern vehicle as a 30 amp conductor. Now if your truck has a heavy wire going to the frame of the truck, and you pull the negative off of the frame for the inverter I'm sure that will be fine.
