Bruce the 4,6& 8 in hyd. fitting sizes represent 1/16s for instance -4 is 4 1/16's or 1/4" SAE is the standard although some off shore equipment uses metric fittings.
There are adapters to go between metric and SAE. Your best bet is to take your hyd. cylinder to a commercial hyd. shop where they have thread gauges for the various types. Is this for a snow plow or some sort of road warrior attachment? ;-)
