I know a guy that used a standard piece of black steel pipe. He cut it to length. Next he put it in the lathe and cut some of the inside thicknes out of each end. Next he tacked a piece of 1/8" flatbar down the length of it. Next he used his mini grinder to cut a straight line groove down the length of it beside the edge of the flatbar. Next he removed the flatbar and dressed it up a bit to suit. Next he welded it to the bedside. It looked pretty darn good.
