Are you installing new bearings? This is the correct roller bearing number - National QBR23549
Do you have the correct rollers?
[Shaft Housing O-Width A-Width R-Dia.]

The snap ring does two things - incases the rollers in operation and holds the rollers during assembly.
If the driven gear bearing surface and rollers are not worn out of specs, gear oil is fine.
Once you install the rollers and snap ring, hold the sub-assembly vertical to ensure rollers do not fall out before moving over TC for installation. Give it a little shake. If they do fall out, use heavy grease to hold the rollers and with the TC in vertical position, install the sub-assembly parallel to it.
On the brake output shaft retainer, place it so the pad on the retainer flange covers the shifter shaft opening.
If you removed the shift forks and rewired the lock screws, check to see that the wire is away from the driven gear. Once the sub assembly is set into the case, spin the output shaft. If you here clicking, the lock wire is hitting the gear and you'll need to pull the sub-assembly and reposition the wire loop/ends.
