I was mulling over this same question 25 years ago. I never ended up taking the trip (PA to AK), but here are a few things I came up with.
- 4:89 gears
- Second or full-width fuel tank. I went with 2 tanks in case one got punctured.
- M101 trailer. Install a gas tank under the frame like the generator trailers have, its an easy way to carry extra gas.
- Tonneau cover for the bed and trailer. Helps keep tools dry and way from curious eyes. Or go all out and find an Alaska Camper for the truck, and enjoy comfortable accommodations between stays with other Power Wagonners.
- All the tools you can fit.
- Halogen headlights
- Small Honda 'quiet' generator.
- Contacts of other Dodge guys along your route. Meeting others along the way will be one of the highlights of the trip.
Best of luck!
