Had a leaky high pressure power steering hose on my 2005 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. Thought it would be a PITA. Had it out in 10 minutes, then back in in about an hour and 45 mins. Woulda been sooner but I didn't pay attention to the routine of the hose before taking it out.
Then I got a wild hair and decided to swap out the rear third member to the 4.89s. I know, I should wait to do it with the centered rear axle, but I couldn't. The axle will hafta be at a later time when I can do the brake swap also.
Then as I filled up the rear axle with fluid, I decide to swap the transmission and transfer case fluids also. Put 85/140 in all three. Had 85/140 in the diffs, and 80/90 in the transmission and transfer case, but the 80/90 seemed too thin. It seemed like there was nothing in there while shifting, so I went thicker. See how it goes
Now back to the real world and on duty tomorrow to do the same thing to fire engines!
Before I drive it, tho, will it hurt anything if the rear end is 4.89 and the front is still 5.83? As long as I don't engage the front axle? I have free wheeling front hubs, so the front isn't rolling. But should I take out the front driveshaft until I can get that one swapped?
