Very true. I think I have a "2.5 hp" Sears household vacuum cleaner, that is equipped with a 16 gauge cord. I think they measure their "HP" in terms of the instantaneous peak power generated when you jamb something into the motor. Yes, read the "amps", because that number is regulated by law and industry standards.
