Axle clarification

So with centered axle I just got from Ed, I put it next to the axle i got from Steve K. Same length. I mocked up both centered axles under the truck, tried to get the backing plates lined up as close as possible with the offset axle on the truck. They seem the same length. I measured the centered axles, and from the end of the spindle to the end of the spindle is 73 1/2 inches. Are they the correct axles?

According to Ray's site that addresses the centered axle mod, it says a 1/2 ton axle can be used.. doesn't mention anything about being shorter. Is this an oversight or are the 1/2 tons axles the same length as 3/4 ton and PW axles??
