Dan has a great point, the exhaust gas temp should be monitored even on stock trucks.
The weakness of the cummins is when that back cylinder gets hot. I know several people who have burned up stock engines by working them hard and not monitoring the egt.
the shop i consulted with told me to stay at 1250 or less to be safe.
One other note: this is an other reason i chose the smarty jr. it is consistently cooler than any other chip, and even stock in some cases.
got to get the pyrometer!!!!
