If you are using two filament bulbs, remember that one filament is brighter than the other, and draws more amps. More amps equals faster flash rate. A worn socket can allow you to turn the bulb too far and both buttons can make contact at the same time.
Check this only on the side that flashes faster than the other:
Look closely thru the glass bulb at the bulb filaments. See if one filament is detached and is touching against the other filament. This will cause a big increase in amperage because both filaments are trying to light at the same time.
