Most woods used in exposed applications in marine environments are some species of tropical hardwood like teak. Nice, if you can afford it. Maybe, Clueless in Costa Rica could swing it.
Marine grade plywoods are nice, but even marine plywoods will delaminate if not protected.
Just about any wood will work if you can keep it painted.
