The hauler always has the truck for collateral and will get compensated,
one way or another, despite the annoyance.
When your truck is ten states away and the hauler goes broke, maybe through no fault of his own (accident, breakdown, theft, illness, etc.) the owner is left holding the bag.
I don't think there is a problem dealing with the established haulers we hear about on this site. It's just that I would like the hauler to have some incentive to complete the haul, other than damage to his reputation. Especially, if he is not a professional hauler.
Try suing somebody in small claims court who is not a resident of your state and maybe doesn't even have a permanent address. Good luck serving a subpoena on a trucker.
