There are not enough characters available in this message box to describe a series of stunningly stupid actions I have just taken, not to mention the level of frustration I am currently experiencing.
I was plastigaging my #6 piston, and as you can see from the picture I didn't quite do it correctly. The short story is: it appears that something was off, I tightened, things got stuck, I loosened, I tightened, I tapped, I rotated and on and on, and the result is a bent rod bearing cap, not to mention a toasted bearing. In the picture you can see that the hole is stretched out, it will not go back on.
I was about to ask about just fitting up a new bearing cap/bearing, when I just had another horrible realization - perhaps the other side is damaged too.
I'm thinking I have to investigate the piston, I'll check the upper bearing and measure the studs for straightness.
Any suggestions as to how to proceed? Anyone have a wrecker?
Thanks,
don
