Took some of your good advise and that of John Bizal @ Midwest Military.
Retime engine to 2 degrees ATDC - no real change - still bumpy and surging
changed plugs to autolite 295s, gapped to .025 inch- little better - no real change
found that I did not change hi tension wire from coil to dist when i installed a semi custom set - made up new wire - no change
swapped coil with resistor to 12v non resistor coil - made all the difference in the world!!!
checked rubber fuel line - not squishy
checked inline fuel filter - pointed in right direction
Installed rebuilt carb.
took it out - no hesitation, no bogging - perfect.
broke my speedo cable during shakedown! New one ordered from John Bizal.
If you are having problems with your engine as I was, ask questions here! John B rebuilt my carb and my distributor and I can honestly say that the truck has never ran or sounded better. I was of the belief that the flathead was a dog because of its low hp rating vs the weight of the truck. now that its dialed in, it pushes my command with 489s at a good clip!!!
