The gas tank for my 6x6 had a lot of varnish on the bottom and a fair bit of rust on the top. Yesterday I decided to try cleaning up both by setting up an electrolysis system inside the tank. I'm very happy to report that after 8 hours the rust is about 80-90% gone, and the varnish is about 30% gone.
I did some research last night and decided to try cleaning up the remaining varnish with 2 gallons of E85 gasoline. As of this morning it seems to be working very well. I guess that crap is good for something after all!
I was lucky in that the upper baffle plate close to the fuel inlet had broken loose, and I was able to run 3 iron rods into tank all the way to the far baffles. Otherwise I could have run electrodes in through the sending unit hole. Sorry no pictures, my camera died a while ago.
