transfer case/ transmission

I have a 65 M43 ambulance that some one has shoe horned a 383 into. I suspect the old transfer case and transmission are just not up to the task. Can anyone suggest a transfer case and transmission that might work. I do not know the engine year yet, but I will get it. Thanks
