Sounds like Cummins needs a lot of inventory control upgrades. If the data plate on a recon can be from a different engine, I wonder how they know what engine they are shipping to a customer. Maybe its just luck of the draw. Also wonder how they justify their inventory if they dont know exactly what CPL engines they have in stock. I wonder how, in the event of a major loss they could ever convince a Underwriter this and that were in stock and in these amounts.
Its my opinion that meticulous care is given to be sure a Recon leaving Cummins is Totally identified on the data plate firmly attached. The Recon numbers on the data plates are not meaningless to Cummins. I called Cummins in Albany, gave them the Recon number and they pulled all the info on that engine, even to the point that there was 6 months left on the warranty.
The data plates on my Recon's are new, with the recon date stamped on them as well as all other info normally found on a data plate. How else could they keep track ???
I have seen lots of dirty grungy in service engines, never seen one without a data plate. They are really firmly attached. I believe the loss of a data plate is a good indication of a dark period in history on that engine leaving a rightful owner to find a dark home in the world.
