The siding is 1x6 rough cut red oak. We were gonna do board and batten if we hung it green to let the battens cover the gap as it shrinks and swells. Changed my mind mostly for appearance and I'm really glad I did. The guy that lives behind me did board and batten. The first thing that catches your eye is all the battens. Much cleaner with the shiplap. The crew that is doing most of the work rough cut the rabbets with a table saw and I cleaned it up with a router. Added a lot to the labor, but in the end, I'm happier with it. We are sealing it as we go with Olympic Maximum clear sealer\stain. We will mount corner boards once we get the siding up. each board is held with two screws every 18-24". It's a nice tight fit, which should deter the critters.
