computer question

I have been told I should clear the cookies on my computer. I have little technical knowledge of these things. I went to the place in the tools/options box and found where I can do that. The choice is to either clear ALL or to select those I want to clear. In as short and simple manner as possible, please explain what will result in clearing ALL? Thanks. Jerry
