I think the blue coating is the same as on Green Sinker nails. It gets hot and sticks.
And sokebody mentioned re-torque after a heat-cool cycle. Maybe a couple h/c cycles?
And I'm having better luck with longevity if I centerpunch a row down the middle of the narrow siamese section of the head. Theory is the slight raised bumps grab the gasket, keep it from blowing back and forth. Do the head, not the block. Head is easier to 'erase' next surfacing, if it doesn't help.
Dave, what is the head casting number? Can you mic it for me too? I'm building a data base of thickness/casting.
It can probably stand milling .060. Later engines had higher compression, no down side with modern gas.
'59 heads are better, not only more comp, better flow around the valves too.
