The other day I had to take a 68 WM300 to the highwat patrol office to have the vin number verified fop the DMV. I had removed all rust and paint from where it should have been (on the side of the frame above the axle, driver's side). A lady officer walkedout and I told her that where the vin number is supposed to be, it's not. She said that her book said it was on the passenger side. Of course I stuck my chest out and informed her that i collected these babies and it was supposed to be on the driver's side. About then she walks over to the passenger side and says "well that sure looks like it right there". I walked over, looked and sure enough there it was. Take notice of immediate chest deflation.
I ask Dave at VPW and he said that some ofthe later ones where on the right.
Now I'm trying to find one on a second series truck. I have the frame down to the metal on both sides above the axles and no number. I guess I could put my tail between my legs and go ask the lady highway officer but if you guys could tell me where to find it, might save me a bit of humilation.
