You will need to keep the transfer case in "LOC" to move. I don't know if it will damage anything. I have a 77 M880 with a part time conversion kit installed be the previous owner. I ran it hubs locked all winter and unlocked in the summer and see no diffrence at all. except no wheel hopping on corners
