Mark:
You should use a lube with sulphur added. This is to keep that big brass $250 gear happy. Sulphur has an affinity for the zinc in the brass and acts as a hi pressure insulator. I use a dark brown lube from Simplicity lawn equipment for the rototillers. About $5 or $8 per quart. I overfill the box a bit so it pees out the drum shaft a bit when used. This gives a free lube job on the sliding dog clutch.
If you can't find it, let me know and I can mail you a quart or two as I have done for others.
