I've worked a bit with CA titles, and they can be a real pain. DMV does not verify VIN's, the CA Highway Patrol does. Last time it took me a month just to get the appointment, as only one officer in each office does it. Then it's back to the DMV, where they can hit you with back fees and penalties. I bought a Ford F-600 4x4 (oops) for $400, found out it had $4500 back fees and penalties on it. Have to wait 5 years for the records to clear before I can register (I hope!) So, if you take it out of state, do you avoid these problems? I don't know, but you won't have a title to transfer from CA, and that could be problematic. Rob
