Pry bars and spoons after the tire machine breaks the beads. And prying while on the machine is lots better then bending over.
On re-assembly, our style has to be the most goove-proofist design of the 20 +/- split ring types. Once the tire bead is over the inner lip, and the ring is snapped into it's groove in the rim, it's pretty well together. I inflate w/ wheel mounted on an axle backwards, and use a clip-on chuck, then hook the hose to the compressor at the other end of the hose. Also put a pressure gauge on a q/d fitting to check the pressure from the far end.
But it is work. The three days of hardest work I've ever done were, in no particular order, a) running a tar kettle to hot mop a roof, hoisting the buckets up with a ladder pulley, b) carry 11 tons of hay bales 40 feet and handing them up for stacking, c) busting and re-mounting 10 Dodge wheels with hammer and pry bars.
