M37, 24 volt to 12 volt?

For those M37 owners, I have a question. I am now a proud owner of a 1952M37 and its complete and only minor rust.My plan is to restore it once the WC12 is done. I am not all that fond of the 24 volt system and would like to know some details of 12 volt conversion.
1)can I use the original engine and distributor?
2)Would a civi distributor fit in the M37 engine?
3)Besides lights, coil, voltage regulator, starter and generator, what else changes.
I may go with an alternator.
A diesel conversion is to costly for me.
