What Paul says I would strongly validate.
You have the advantage of being in the west, so that you have an excellent chance of getting a truck that is not eaten too much by rust.
I suppose that is not true of trucks on the (wet) northwest coast, but for nearly all the other western areas.
Spending a little more up front for a truck that is not a basket case - "project" will be one of the best investments you ever make.
I know, as I restored a project truck from the northeastern U.S.. I am very happy with how it turned out, and enjoyed the job, but purposely did not count the hours and money it took me to do it over 8 years.
