I don't know why it exploded. Maybe, he didn't run the blower, or maybe there was a spill or leak that overwhelmed the blower.

I had a boat for 15 years in Marina Del Rey, the world's largest small boat harbor. About 7000 boats as I remember. There was never an explosion caused by diesel vapors and, I've never heard of one elsewhere.
