The engine isn't great, but it was the right one for this truck. It was a Plymouth car engine, and had two rusty valves, which I hand-lapped to a somewhat-improved degree of smoothness but probably nothing like a proper valve job. It definitely smokes some and emits some gas fumes, but it has good oil pressure and most importantly it pushes a loaded truck up steep hills in second that the old engine would barely make it up in first. It's back to being a good work truck on my land, and that was the goal. I've got two better engines for when I get around to building a really good M37.
