Technically they did as they have already announced the 3.0 L VM diesel in the RAM 1500.

It would have been nice to keep it consistent but I can see why they went this route. The two companies are going after different areas. Nissan is trying to give themselves something strong to get the guys who can't play in the 3/4 and 1 ton market but want that feel.

The VM diesel will probably slot into between the gas V6 and the HEMI as the HP will be closer to the 3.6 and the torque closer to the HEMI. It's also already being used in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, and VM is tied to Fiat so it makes sense they kept it in-house.
