In aluminum heads . usually between valves and sometimes from a water jacket to a valve . Just because a head has a crack does not mean that it is garbage , more often than not the leak is from a scrubbed gasket . Also (and I am embarrassed to admit it ) I have dropped bars leak or similiar into a few engines with cracked heads and the problem went away . three and more years later the engines have not started to leak again . i started to do this after being told by a fellow who worked in an assemble plant that it was not uncommon practice to drop in a can of something if the engine had a leak - not sure if it was factual but the guy was not the bragging sort , actually he was quite quiet about it .
