My dad grew up on the east Side of New Mexico. We have pics in our family albums of ranchers hauling their horses this way. We even have a Peter Hurd painting that depicts this horse hauling method. I asked my dad about it a long time ago, and he said a lot of people didn't have money to spend on a trailer, but everyone had trucks!
