4.89's tires, engines, etc....

All I can say on the topic is that of all the gear, tire, engine combos I have run in many different WDX-WM300 type power wagons... The best combination has been a 4.89 gears, 900-16 radial tires on combat wheels and a 251 engine. I drove Maui Daves '48 with a 318La motor and that was nice also, but the 5.83's limited it.
If you are going to do a engine swap from a 230, I wouldn't waste my time with a 251 though. Its still a flathead six less than 1/2 horsepower per cubic inch. Keep it stock or go whole hog with a 318\360\poly etc...
Just my opinion.
