Almost the "forgotten" war, lots of folk back then didn't think it was a "real" war (where WW1 and WW2 were "real" wars) so those returning must have been on a holiday of sorts. The world back then was over wars and didn't want to know. I had family who were there and they were almost shunned by others, like "what you did didn't really count for anything" and "not really important". Our family has always been a bit different to some of the others, where we always valued what or fighting folk did, both for us as a nation and for freedom. God bless our fighting folk, for without them we wouldn't have our freedom.
