I suspect that over that short of terms, the lesser depreciation of the diesel is the kicker.
My previous reading is that it takes about 10 years to pay off the $9,000 excess initial investment with fuel savings.
Of course, in one of our FFPWs, 8 mpg gas vs 17 mpg diesel, means only ummm FOREVER to pay off the full cost of the mods, at 2,000 miles per year.
