Greetings all, from the open road!
I cant think of a better way to spend a Fathers Day than driving 560 miles in a wonderfully restored 6x6 Power Wagon.
The day began with driving lessons, which I barely passed, but Dan still let me take the truck anyway. Then back to Dans house for a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast and coffee! Although a nap would have been just right after breakfast, I departed at pretty close to the 8:30 goal. Quickly gaining proficiency handling the beast, I made it to the Cleveland Airport to pick up Bob Spooner. I drove directly to the airport, pulled up to the curb and not three minutes later Bob walked out! Couldnt have timed that better!
We then headed out, and started burning up the states. The truck cruises nicely at 65, will go 70 but there is no real need to. Noise level is loud, but not unbearable. We can not hear the GPS instructions, but this time we skipped the North Chicago loop tour. I have also learned the difference between Cleveland and Cincinnati! (I may be slow but I am sort of trainable)
As is to be expected, every stop brings out the onlookers, I even had a pretty girl ask me to take her picture (with her phone) standing in front of it. It really is a chick magnet! However, that said, its lots more guys than pretty girls asking about it.
We made it through Illinois and into Iowa to Davenport. It just feels right to be in Iowa with a Power Wagon. Tomorrow we wont burn through many states, as they are starting to get bigger!
Well, thats about it for today. Thanks everyone for all of the encouraging comments and well wishes below. I am too tired to reply to them all, but know that I appreciate it.
