The LX cars have an independent rear suspension, so there is no axle housing, just a centered ring and pinion driving the wheels through a set of half-shafts. There are not even any U-joints in the driveshaft, just rubber isolators at each end.
The whole assembly is attached to the body as a unit though, so if both tires are doing it I kind of lean toward something with rear suspension cradle.
