One problem with gas that contains a lot of lead, like av gas, is that it leaves a lot of deposits. I don't recommend that you use it. It is a good idea however to avoid gas that contain alcohol...pretty much everything you can find now.
You can usually get alcohol free gas from marine fueling stations, at marinas etc. The octane rating is plenty high for old cars. Also, there is a website for locating stations with alcohol-free, forgot the url but check Google.
An increase in the octane number does nothing for you except drain your pocket faster.
