Thinner = less friction = better mileage?

Engine oil clearances haven't changed, still 1 1/2- 3 1/2 thousandths. So I doubt the lighter oil, good for modern engines, would harm oldies.

It all gets as thin as water at running temps. The multis are just thinner when cold.
