I'm no body work expert either, but sandblasting works real well. Then prime, sand, prime, sand before paint and everything should be good. Worked for me many times.
What'd ya get? I have a pretty good hood and good front and rear fenders off a 78 W150 if you need any body parts. Lots of other spare parts too.
