It probably slightly improves fuel consumption but improves power only marginally unless:
1) you put in N55 or N60 injectors
2) you turn the governor stop up.
Then power goes up a lot and fuel consumption goes up too, depending on the right foot.
Actually putting on a turbo consists of the following:
1) finding the proper turbo (very important)
2) bolting it onto the exhaust manifold outlet
3) running a connection from the compressor outlet to the intake manifold inlet
4) running a good sized (3/8") line from the oil gallery to the turbo oil inlet
5) running a good sized drain (5/8" or bigger) from the oil outlet back to the oil pan or block skirt, ABOVE the oil level in the pan.
