I found that I had a break near one of the plugs going to main power supply which supplied the hot side of the switch. The wiring can be a nightmare of splices etc...
Try pulling your instrument panel (make sure to disconnect the battery first or you may inavertently fry something) and check all the wires coming up and supplying the switch etc... since it's below the cowl vent and these babies don't always seal well, you could have a wire thats corroded at a connection or like mine just corroded/rotted thru.
