Boy everyone is sure worked up! Now here are the facts; Jeep has copyright ownership of the 7 (not two??) slot grill, it is as distinctive as the Chrysler Pentastar or the f*rd oval, or the gm logo, which are also copyrighted. Jeep, under AMC, designed and built the Hummer. The Hummer and two wheel drive postal Jeeps, and mail vans were built as AMGenerals for years. Starved for cash AMC sold off ( I believe to the employees, then FMC) the AMGeneral line. Unfortunately this was just prior to Chrysler buying AMC. (sure like to see a V-10 Hummer!!) AM GENERAL, with Chryslers approval continued to market and build Humvees and Hummers with the 7 slot grill, after all they are (were) part of the Jeep family of vehicles. Then along comes generic motors, who buys AMGeneral and proceeds to design a new Hummer, the H2. In marketing surveys, 8 out of ten potential buyers incorrectly identified the H2 as a Jeep. Chrysler/Jeep asked gm to modify the grill to avoid copyright infringments, gm refused and even went as far as to stop selling Allison transmissions to the Dodge division for the new Ram HD. (watch for retaliation to come from the New Venture division soon) Without any coorperation from gm, Damler (no typo) Chrysler, sued gm for copyright infringment. So what's everyones beef? If gm came out tommorrow with a "Power Wagon" would that be OK? gm has stolen the Suburban name from Dodge, the firing order/block design from Chrysler and now apparently the grill from Jeep. I think it is time that Chrysler did something, besides this is Damler money now and the sooner they run out of cash and sell Chrysler back to American stockholders, the better off the company will be.
Now "Lubin Lube" get back to your book!
