Hey all,
I had the fortune of being invited to enter the WC in the All Schools Day parade in McPherson KS and what did I run into when we pulled in but the GMC Powerwagon that was posted on the forum last week.
The owner, Mr. Stout, and his wife were great people and while I think putting the GMC emblem behind the grille was a bit tacky to my taste, it was a beautiful truck. He is running an early 90's Suburban frame and powertrain with the fuel injected 350 and 700r4 (4L60)overdrive. Says the truck is exactly what he wanted as a poor trucker! I will agree 100% with that sentiment. Body and paint were done in McPherson and looked really good. He did say he never set out to win any shows, but even though it is far from accurate, he has brought home a trophy or two.
We ended up running side by side down the route and were a big hit with the croud...especially the kids. Something like 35,000 people come out for this so it was alot of fun and the biggest parade I've been involved with. Also had a bunch of model A Fords and a 1909 Stanley Steamer. I think the best I saw was a John Deere A (?) called the "Green Machine" that had no engine and was powered by 8 people on "seats" along the side just pedaling away!
