The fuel pump output sounds pretty anemic to me. But, it depends on the engine cranking speed.
Running the auxiliary gas tank rules out the fuel supply up to the pump as being the problem.
It's a pain, but running a gravity fed auxiliary tank or one with an electric fuel pump directly to the carburetor will rule out the fuel supply entirely.
I doubt that fuel sloshing around is your problem. Otherwise we would all have the same problem. Unless, your fuel pickup is messed up somehow or the fuel level is very low.
