Yeah, I really don't know. But, short of some controlled experiment, I doubt we will have a definitive answer.
I know many people subscribe to this theory, but it just seems to me that even though the water may have less transfer time, there is more of it (in GPM)flowing through the radiator and block to transfer heat. There is probably more to this equation such as cavitation, turbulence and laminar flow.
I doubt most engines are on the edge that much that it will make much of a difference.
Certainly, a properly maintained FFPW has plenty of reserve cooling. So, the drawback of no thermostat is the engine doesn't reach operating temperature soon enough, or ever.
