Help with an electric Ramsey winch

The County's extrication truck has a 24v Ramsey electric winch. Not sure the model.
It has a remote on a cord.
It always goes good in one direction. When you hit the other button to reverse, it will still go forward a time or two, then about the 3rd time it will go in reverse.
It seems like some contacts are bad in the winch in the housing ???
I a life or death situation, you would like the darn thing to work properly.
Any thoughts ???
