I have two beaters. That's my best beater. It's also the first Dodge and the first army truck I ever got. It got thrown in for free in the dickering to buy a lot with a bunch of machinery on it. The guy said "I've got this old army truck you can have too." It was in a storage lot in Seattle, brakes rusted to the drums, all the glass busted out of the windows and gauges by vandals, no electrical system except ignition and starter, no air cleaner or oil filter, a cup of bronze powder and water where the winch gear was supposed to be, home-made wooden flatbed half way rotted out, and no title. I dragged it home, put glass in the windows, fixed the gauges, worked on the brakes enough of that 3 of them brake, got it running well enough, put a modern oil filter on it and an air cleaner off a Chevy Sprint, and got enough lights working to drive it at night on the back roads. After a while I even rebuilt the winch and put a heater in it. So, it's not so much of a beater as it used to be. It's more a practical back-woods truck at this point. I still don't care if it gets brush scratches in the paint or the dog jumps in covered with mud, though.

The real beater beater, though is the Wittenberg conversion that threw a rod year before last. That is one ugly truck, but it has a real bed on it so it's better for getting firewood. It doesn't have lights and it doesn't have glass except in the windshield, whose frames are rusted to bits and held in with wire. I don't worry about brush scratches or muddy dogs with it either.
