I fixed the issue that I was having with the ignition to solenoid wire melting. Turn out I had it on the left big post which created a direct short. Using the diagram from vintage wiring of main plugged the wires exactly as it described. When I turn the key the starter turns over with no issues.

However when I turn the ignition key through the various settings (insert key, turn to right one click, turn right two clicks ect) the starter engages on the setting before the spring loaded final turn that would normally start the engine. Any ideas why this might be?

Additional details:

Truck is a 1965 WM300 with a 12 volt key only ignition switch (no sping loaded foot start) and has a wiring harness from vintage wiring of Maine ) the ignition wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid is on terminal "S" with options of S or T(two smaller terminals of the solenoid). The two big wires are wired to the "bat" terminal of the switch. The smaller wire from the solenoid terminal "S" is on the "ignition" terminal of the switch. And lastly two wires from the fuel gage terminals are on the accessory terminal of the switch. Hopefully this is enough info I know these thing are easier to diagnose in person.
