Sometimes it's just easiest to isolate the problem. If you think the coil is the problem and don't have a multimeter, unhook the existing wires then hook each of the coil terminals to a battery post with some light gauge wire. Doesn't matter much about polarity. Then make and break the connection. You should get a spark from the coil through a spark plug wire held near a ground.
It's actually just easier to short across the open points with a screw driver. But, the first techniques eliminates all the other variables and makes it easier to understand what's going on.
This may not rule out every coil problem, but it's a good start.
